Alta is one of the oldest ski resorts in the US, and one of the most traditional: one of only three resorts in the country which does not allow snowboarding on its slopes.
The skiing, though, is very good, particularly for those with an interest in deep powder. Alta, thanks to its founder Alf Engen, was at the forefront of the growth of powder skiing in America.
Beginners can learn well here, thanks to the easy slopes at Sunnyside and Albion. Those more expert are advised to take the new detachable quad lift up the Sugerloaf and enjoy the view before descending.
