Like Ylläs in Finland, Åre is a great place to come to escape the Alpine rush in favour of a more relaxed and friendly experience.

Åre is one of three interlocked villages surrounding the Aresjon Lake, which provide 98 individual pistes covering 93 kilometres.

Only five of those pistes are for experts, and much of Åre's energy is diverted into snowboarding, which is taken very seriously here. There is night-time skiing, but for those who decide against it the local bars and restaurants are very welcoming.
