Bardonecchia is one of Italy's oldest ski resorts.
It was founded in 1908, making the footsteps which so many other towns in the Italian Alps have since followed. For all its traditional charm, though, Bardonecchia has successfully reinvented itself as one of the foremost snowboarding centres in Italy.
It has a perfect snowpark, 1200 metres long, which was used for the snowboarding events of the 2006 Turin Winter Olmypics. For those with more conventional tastes, it was some steep descents (one starts at 2800 metres and finishes at 1300), and of course the quality of shopping and restaurants natural in such a resort.
