Seriously destroyed during the war, but since rebuilt, Bjelasnica in Bosnia is returning to its former glories.

It was the site of the dramatic men's alpine skiing events in the 1984 Winter Olympics, which was principally based in nearby Sarajevo.

A heavy investment programme over the last ten years has seen the resort start moving back to its rightful place among the best in Europe. There may only be three ski lifts, but the steep, uncluttered slopes provide a real test for the serious skiers.
