Unlike most of the resorts in the Haute-Savoie region, Flaine is a new creation: it celebrated its fortieth birthday in January 2009.

Unsurprisingly, Flaine is more conveniently designed than most resorts (you can ski to and from your accommodation), but also loses something in charm and authenticity, thanks to its concrete block architecture.

The skiing at Flaine is good, but it is worth buying a pass to the rest of the Grand Massif region, which also includes Les Carroz, Morillon and Samoëns.
