Just as Chamonix is defined by Mont Blanc, Zermatt is defined by the towering Matterhorn.
Skiers at the resort cannot ascend the whole 4478 metres, but can ski down from Klein Matterhorn at 3883 metres. Opportunities do not end there: the neighbouring areas of Gornergrat and Sunegga Paradise provide more options for the less expert, and the Gravity Park, for snowboarders, is one of the most comprehensive in Europe.
As is the trend with ski resorts, Zermatt takes its environmental obligations seriously. Only electric cars are allowed in the resort. Après ski choices range from the standard bar and club scene to a cinema and a museum.
