Ski Equipment Guide
Ski and snowboarding equipment can be expensive but it's obviously very important that you have certain items. Most of this equipment is best purchased in the UK before you leave unless you know that you are going to be able to buy it cheaper at your resort.

Here are some general tips with regard to ski and snowboarding equipment and what to look out for:
- Eye protection is vital. The glare on the slopes from the sun can be very strong. You will need good quality goggles, sunglasses and sun screen.
- Dress in layers with the lightest layer at the bottom. Always be prepared as the weather can change very suddenly. Remember, it is also significantly colder at the top of a mountain than at the bottom.
- Wear a hat – even when it’s sunny.
- Man made fibres work much better next to the skin than cotton, which tends to trap moisture.
- If you can’t afford your own equipment, use a reputable hire company. Whatever you do, don’t borrow equipment from your friends or family. Borrowing equipment increases the risk of injury by an enormous 800%.
- Your ski or snowboarding equipment must fit properly. When you hire equipment your height, weight and ability must be taken into consideration – any hire facility that does not ask these questions should not be used.
- If you have your own equipment make sure it is checked regularly. Bindings need to be serviced at least annually to keep them clean, lubricated and set correctly.
- Consider using a protective helmet to protect against head injury.
- If you are snowboarding, use a wrist guard. Wrist guards have been shown to significantly reduce the risk of wrist injury – the number one injury for snowboarders
